Leadership

Ed Garahan Chief Executive Officer

A recognized expert in multiple aspects of development and construction, Ed provides visionary leadership while overseeing the wide-ranging activities of The Carbon Companies. In his 4 decades in the industry, Ed has directed – or was instrumental to the construction and development of – thousands of multi-family units, more than 40 hotels, 250 restaurants, multiple office buildings, numerous hospitals and healthcare facilities, and many industrial projects.

Kurt E. Jones Chief Operating Officer

As a partner in The Carbon Companies and a 40-year track record of excellence, Kurt brings proven talent and insight to every Carbon project. He leads the development and construction teams, ensuring all projects are delivered on time and on budget. Kurt’s background includes a degree in Building Construction from Texas A&M University and experience in building single-family custom homes, single family attached, office, retail, and more than 40,000 multi-family units. The depth and breadth of his construction knowledge provides our clients the added benefit of having a seasoned problem solver expediting their projects.

John C. Hood Chief Financial Officer

John’s extensive background and skill in accounting and financial strategies make him the ideal person to manage Carbon’s corporate accounting and tax activities. He maintains strong relationships with banks and other financial institutions while providing critical, in-depth fiscal analysis for each Carbon venture.

Travis E. Jones Executive Vice President

As Executive Vice President, and a vital member of the Carbon team since 1996, Travis oversees the development team and Carbon’s in-house general contractor, and is responsible for the overall coordination, development, design, and construction of all Carbon projects. His prior experience as a Superintendent, Project Manager, Vice President of Construction and General Counsel provides him with a unique perspective on all aspects of Carbon’s business.  Travis has been instrumental in the development and construction of office, retail, and over 6,000 multi-family units.

Travis is also a licensed attorney and member of the State Bar of Texas, with degrees from Texas A&M University and Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. His expertise in site evaluation, entitlements, design, project management, and cost value analysis allow Carbon to consistently meet project deadlines and fiscal projections.

Claire Scheihing Director of Management Operations

Claire Scheihing (pronounced Shine) has integrated her extensive on-site property management experience into her current role as Director of Management Operations, skillfully navigating the intricate intersections of development, construction, and property management operations. Over the past decade, Claire has curated a proven track record, playing a pivotal role in the successful launch of more than 12 multifamily properties, with more on the way. Her keen insights and hands-on approach have proven instrumental in orchestrating smooth transitions from early development stages through grand opening, ensuring a cohesive and well-managed portfolio.

Deirdre Morton Marketing & Management Operations

Deirdre is a dedicated property management professional who has been part of the Carbon team for over a decade.  She has successfully managed onsite property management operations for a multitude of diverse projects, demonstrating her expertise in new construction lease ups and value-add assets.

In her current role, Deirdre oversees marketing efforts for new and existing properties, with a focus on online marketing campaigns, social media, incentives, and resident retention.  She also interfaces with the construction and management teams to effectuate successful new construction lease ups.

Cole Bradford Director of Development

Cole has been a member of the Carbon team since April 2018.  As Director of Development, Cole is involved in site selection, land acquisition, market analysis, financial underwriting, deal structure and capitalization including raising equity and securing financing.  He is also an integral part of our team that oversees the financial strategies and positioning of all projects under Carbon management, asset management, and operations of existing projects.  Cole also spearheads Carbon’s lender and investor relations.

Cole was born in Plano, Texas, and earned his BBA in Finance with an emphasis in Real Estate from TCU. In his spare time, Cole enjoys golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends, especially his wife, Merissa.

Sam Bradford Development Analyst

Sam joined the Carbon team in 2023 and serves as a development analyst. Prior to joining Carbon, he gained internship experience working for CBRE. Sam is responsible for assisting with market research, project underwriting, financial strategy, and asset management.

Sam graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a major in Economics and a minor in Business and Real Estate. In his spare time, Sam enjoys fitness, attending sports events, and spending time with friends and family.

Kelsey Barton Interior Design Manager

Kelsey manages all aspects of interior design for all Carbon projects, including design conceptualization, marketing coordination, architectural interiors, finish selections, procurement, and installation. With a detail-oriented approach to projects from conception to completion, Kelsey ensures that each property is uniquely curated through elevated design.

Kelsey received her B.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M. Her background working as a land development engineer before making the transition into interior design brings a unique perspective and project management experience to the team.

Tom Coggins Senior Project Manager

Tom joined the Carbon team in 2023, bringing with him 40 years of experience in the construction industry.  He is responsible for project management and estimation and is instrumental in ensuring Carbon projects are bought out efficiently and within budget.  Tom has a variety of experience in different roles spanning from tradesman to superintendent to project director and has been involved in the construction of over 8,000 multifamily units.  His expertise in a variety of construction related software systems is an asset to the Carbon team.

Originally a native of Indiana, Tom has been a Texas resident for nearly a decade.  He served six years in The United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as E05, Sergeant.  In his spare time, Tom enjoys giving back to his community, Church, golfing, spending time with his children and grandchildren, exercise, travel and watching sports.

Katrina Hoover Job Cost Accountant

An important Carbon team member since 2012, Katrina helps us reach project goals by building strong relationships and a team attitude with our family of subcontractors and vendors. She specializes in contracts, insurance, job costing, budgets, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. With nearly three decades in the construction business, Katrina has experience in virtually every category of construction, including high-rises, heavy highway, commercial, medical, warehouses, restaurants, retail and multi-family.

Born in Lewisville, Texas, Katrina is an active member of her church and has a passion for travel and gardening.

Mayela Alvarado Job Cost Accountant

Mayela brings over 30 years of experience in construction and development to the Carbon team.  In her current role as job cost accountant, Mayela helps us reach project goals by building strong relationships and a team attitude with our family of subcontractors and vendors.  During her career, Mayela has worked with hospitality, multifamily, and student housing developers, as well as property management.

Mayela enjoys working with Carbon projects from groundbreaking through completion.  Originally a native of Costa Rica, she has called Dallas home for several decades.  In her free time, Mayela enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Marci Neece Staff Accountant

Marci brings two decades of accounting experience to the Carbon team, ranging from receivables, payables, project billing, and full-cycle accounting.  Her knowledge spans multiple industries including auto dealerships, property management, and construction.

Marci holds a degree in Business Management with a focus in accounting and believes learning new skills are fundamental for growth as an employee and person.

Vickie Atwell Accounts Payable Specialist

Vickie manages corporate accounts payable and receivable.  She started her accounting career in the retail sector, moving to university gift administration, as well as the manufacturing, natural gas, and construction industries.

Vickie earned her degree in accounting as a non-traditional student while working full time.  She excels at three-way matching, data entry, reconciliation, and reporting.  She is a lifetime learner who enjoys adding to her knowledge base and skill sets.

Kelly Beavers Human Resources Manager

Kelly joined the Carbon team in 2023 as the Human Resources Manager.  She handles all employee recruiting, onboarding, benefits, payroll, policies & procedures.  Kelly has over 20 years of HR experience in the Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering and Construction industries.

Kelly is skilled at employee relations and is always looking for ways to improve the Carbon team experience.
